Look what some of us achieved today during literacy today:

Others followed task boards during literacy and maths.  We rotated around in small groups ...

This week we started something new to develop our oral language.  We have using 'Think Peer Share'.

Here is some of our work.

Some action from the pool today.  A group of swimmers are learning to 'save their lives', as quoted by Sarah from Swimming New Zealand.  Sarah thinks our swimmers are gaining more confidence in the water and she is proud of our 5 year olds.

Here is Gus showing us how to roll from our front to back and front again.

Each week we have a hui with our junior school.  This week it was our turn to lead the hui.

Ella and Ryley did a fantastic job learning their lines at school and at home.

Ka pai girls! We are soooo proud of you both.

Our value this term is 'whakawhanaungatanga' (positive relationships) and today we had a discussion about what this means and how we can display this value.

Here is our thinking ...

We read the 'Very Cranky Bear' today and we talked a lot about positive relationships while reading this story.

Some music action from today's session ...

We do read to self every day!  Each day we read for longer, because we are building our stamina.  This is how we become better readers.

Today we had some special hand writers who became teachers.  They were very excited about his.  Here are our new teachers ...

And here is Stuart helping Aiden with his handwriting ...

And Brianna helping Kaylee ...

We like learning from and with each other.

In maths we a learning about clocks and time.  It helps us with learning about the numbers to 12 too.  How to read and write numbers to 12, the before and after number.  How many hours from 3 to 5 o'clock (3 +__ = 5).  We made this giant clock today.  Fiona and Kelly are wondering how our clock drawing is going.

Welcome to Felix, Vinnie and Fedric who had their first day of school today!

You have all made a fantastic start to school.  We love having you as part of our Superheroes class.

Lachie and his family heard we needed some more dusters.

Thank you Lachie for giving your old teddy bears to the Superheroes to use. How kind!

Room 5 Superheroes did some very interesting Science learning with Joy during Buddy Class.

We were amazed! We are so intrigued that we are going to show the rest of our class too.

We learnt all about our eyes!

Did you know that people who are colour blind see the colours green and red as the same colour?
They see them as a brown.

We learnt about different parts of our eyes like our retina and pupil.
When we covered our eye for 45seconds our pupil went really BIG. This is because our eye was in the dark and tried to find light.

We had an exciting discovery about how our brain and eyes communicate.  We coloured a fish in one bold colour and steered at it for 1 minute without blinking.   Straight after we looked into a plain empty fish bowl and what did we see.... ANOTHER FISH an opposite colour to our coloured-in fish.

Thank you so much Joy for sharing your creative and exciting science activities with us.

Our buddy class have helped us to create these 'Superhero' pictures on PicCollage.  We really like our buddies from 'Brain Busters'.

We think Nana J is awesome.  Yesterday she helped us to make lolli cake during Discovery and today we got to eat it.  We had to count how many lollies there were in our cake before we ate it.

We were very lucky to have 3 adults swimming in the pool with us today.  Kelly hops in and Alisha and Stephen (Dontae's parents) hopped in today too.  Alisha is a swimming instructor.

Here is some action from the pool.  Addisyn and Lyric are trying to retrieve items from the floor of the pool.  They have been learning that when they hold their breath they float, but when they blow bubbles they sink to the bottom of the pool and this makes it easier to retrieve items.

We were very excited to celebrate their success.

On Friday we had buddy challenge day.  RSS school leaders organised and led a day of fun activities for all to enjoy.  Sophie and Katie were the leaders at the tooth pick and blue tac tower building challenge.

Here are some photos ...

Hannah did 3-legged races. Here are some more pictures:

This week we also introduced Kahu at our Papatuanuku hui.
